1. What Is Bihar STET—and Why Does It Matter for TRE-4?

STET is an eligibility test, not a teacher appointment examination. Passing it does not itself give a government job. Instead, it certifies that a candidate satisfies the teacher-eligibility requirement for the relevant teaching level, subject and future recruitment conditions.

The timing is especially important because BPSC TRE-4 is also moving forward. STET-2026 gives a fresh group of B.Ed./eligible subject candidates an opportunity to obtain STET qualification. However, passing STET-2026 will translate into TRE-4 eligibility only if the eventual BPSC TRE-4 advertisement accepts the result under its qualification cut-off date.

3. Exam Pattern: 100 Subject + 50 Teaching Art & Skills

Duration: 150 minutes (2 hours 30 minutes). Question type: Multiple-choice. Negative marking: None. Mode: Computer Based Test (CBT).

4. Passing Marks, Normalization and Lifetime Certificate

*If normalization applies, BSEB determines pass/fail using the normalized score, not merely the raw score. Therefore the raw-mark equivalents above are only intuitive references.

BSEB's notification states that multi-shift examinations will use normalization. A candidate can therefore have a raw score above a nominal threshold but still be judged on the normalized score. The STET qualifying certificate carries lifetime validity.

Minimum age is 21 years. Additional category-specific relaxation may apply under the notification/rules for eligible categories such as PwD and ex-servicemen.

6. Educational Eligibility: Paper I and Paper II

Paper I — Secondary (Classes 9–10)

For general subjects, the standard route is a relevant Bachelor's or Master's degree with at least 50% plus B.Ed., or the corresponding NCTE-permitted route with 45%, or an eligible integrated teacher-education degree such as B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed. under the notified conditions.

Important subject-combination rules

• Mathematics: Mathematics at graduation level together with two subjects from Physics / Electronics / Computer Science / Chemistry / Statistics, subject to the notification conditions.
• Science: graduation-level study in Zoology, Botany and Chemistry, or the notified biotechnology/microbiology route.
• Social Science: at least two subjects among History, Geography, Economics and Political Science, with History or Geography compulsory as one of the two.

Paper II — Higher Secondary (Classes 11–12)

For general subjects, the principal route is a relevant Postgraduate degree with at least 50% plus B.Ed.; notified NCTE alternatives include a 45% PG route and specified integrated qualifications.

Teaching Art repeats concepts more than wording

Across recent papers and memory-based sets, the same conceptual clusters recur: Bloom's Taxonomy, learning domains, lesson planning, microteaching, inductive/deductive teaching, classroom processes, evaluation, learner-centred teaching, teaching aids and learning difficulties.

The 5-mark blocks reward broad revision

GK, environment, mathematics and reasoning are each small, so over-specialising in one of them gives a poor return. The efficient strategy is short daily revision plus timed mixed practice.

Subject content is the rank-maker

Two-thirds of the paper—100 out of 150 marks—comes from the chosen subject. Candidates who prepare only school-level NCERT/Bihar Board books often find Paper I or II deeper than expected because the prescribed level extends to graduation or postgraduate study.

No negative marking changes strategy

Because there is no penalty for a wrong answer, candidates should normally attempt all 150 questions. The key problem is therefore not “whether to attempt” but how to protect time for uncertain subject questions while still completing the common 50.

STET-2026 has become politically and practically important because aspirants had demanded a fresh STET before TRE-4. The concern was that recent B.Ed./subject-qualified candidates could otherwise miss a major teacher-recruitment cycle.

STET-2026 now creates the eligibility route, but one question remains decisive:
